Does barcode/QR scanning work on metallic or specialty stocks?

Last updated: 2026-01-05

Yes—if you design for scan reliability. Metallic and specialty stocks can reduce contrast and introduce glare. That’s a design/spec problem, not a “printer” problem.

What we do to protect scanning

  • Keep codes on a high-contrast background
  • Respect quiet zones (don’t crowd the code)
  • Avoid placing codes across heavy texture or extreme shine

Quick tip

When in doubt, keep the barcode area “boring” and use metallic as an accent elsewhere.
