What is die-cut vs kiss-cut (and why does it matter)?

Die-cut and kiss-cut describe how the label is cut.

Die-cut (through-cut)

  • Cut through the label material (and often the liner) into individual pieces
  • Best for: singles, handouts, small runs, custom shapes delivered as individual labels

Kiss-cut

  • Cut through the label material but not the backing/liner
  • Best for: sheets or rolls where the backing stays intact for easy peel
